According to The Financial Times, the EU commissioner Thierry Breton warned Elon Musk that Twitter must follow content moderation rules or risk a ban in EU. The Financial Times reported that Twitter cannot use an “arbitrary” approach, subject to no rules, when reinstating banned users, plus Twitter must moderate disinformation and be subject to an independent audit. Apparently, Musk’s initial changes to Twitter’s content moderation raised concerns.
The new EU Digital Services Act (DSA) went into effect on Nov. 16, 2022. It institutes a panoply of requirements for Internet platforms. The EU provides this handy chart outlining the requirements.
